2025 Headies Awards: Mohbad, Odumodu Blvck, and Ayra Starr Dominate the Nominations
After taking a break last year, The Headies Awards—Nigeria’s most prestigious music honors—is making a grand return. This time, the organizers have decided to host the event in Lagos, Nigeria. This doesn't come as a surprise following backlash over the 2023 Headies Awards held in the United States.
Top Contenders and Surprising Entries in the 2025 Headies Awards
The official nomination list, released on February 12, 2025, features some of the biggest names in Nigerian and international music. This year, only music projects—ranging from singles, videos, live performances, EPs, and albums—that were officially released between April 1, 2023, and July 31, 2024, were considered.
Odumodu Blvck leads the nominations with a total of five nods, solidifying his position as one of Nigeria’s hottest rappers. Meanwhile, a bittersweet moment in this year’s nominations is the inclusion of Mohbad, who posthumously secured three nominations nearly two years after his tragic passing in September 2023.
The 17th edition of The Headies will take place on April 5, 2025, in Lagos, celebrating the artists and projects that have shaped the music scene in the past year.
