In a deeply disheartening event, Morocco experienced a potent earthquake whose violence led to the deaths of over 800 individuals and injuries of several hundred more. The natural disaster, marking the worst the country has witnessed in over sixty years, rumbled through clusters of distant mountain villages. Rescue teams are tirelessly plowing through the rubble in search of survivors, while many have witnessed the horrifying destruction of their homes.

The tremor reverberated through the picturesque High Atlas mountains around 11 pm, prompting the Moroccan Interior Ministry to announce on Saturday that the casualty count had reached at least 800, not considering the hundreds more nursing injuries. In addition to its deadly impact on lives, the quake also inflicted significant property damage in Marrakech, a bustling metropolitan hub proximal to the epicenter.

The nation's geophysical center reported that the quake originated from the Ighil area, registering an alarming magnitude of 7.2. In contrast, the US Geological Survey posited a slightly lower magnitude of 6.8, also indicating its relatively shallow depth of 11.5 miles (18.5 km), which only intensified the devastation on the surface.

In response to the distressing event, numerous global leaders have reached out to express their condolences to the Northern African nation on Saturday morning.

US President Joe Biden openly sympathized with the victims in a public address. He further reaffirmed that the United States was on standby, prepared to "provide any necessary assistance" to aid in the crisis.

Other demonstrations of solidarity poured in from Finland, where the President, Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister came forward to share their deep condolences with Morocco. These messages were prompted by the heartrending images and updates emerging from the beleaguered country following the catastrophic seismic event on late Friday.
