Federal Authorities Seize Over 350 Website Domains for Illegal Importation of Firearm Parts from China

Federal authorities in the United States have taken decisive action to combat illegal firearm imports by seizing over 350 internet domains linked to the trafficking of dangerous firearm accessories. The domains were allegedly used to sell switches and silencers, which contravene the US National Firearms Act (NFA) and violate federal laws against trafficking counterfeit goods.

In the US, switches—devices designed to convert semiautomatic pistols into fully automatic machine guns—along with silencers, which suppress the sound of firearm discharges, are strictly prohibited for possession and importation from certain countries, including China. Court documents indicate that federal investigators began targeting various websites, businesses, and individuals in August 2023 for their role in selling these illegal items.

Investigators discovered that the illegal items were shipped from China under false descriptions, such as “necklaces” or “toys,” in an attempt to evade detection by customs authorities. This tactic aimed to obscure the illicit nature of the goods being imported.

Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy stated, "As part of our ongoing commitment to ensure community safety, our office will continue to combat the threats posed by illegal firearms and their accessories. Taking down these websites represents a pivotal step in disrupting the channels that facilitate the availability of such dangerous contraband."

Counterfeit Goods and Trademark Violations Involved

Authorities also uncovered that many of the seized domains were trafficking counterfeit products, specifically selling “Glock” switches, despite Glock, Inc. never manufacturing such devices. This highlights a significant violation of federal laws against trafficking counterfeit goods alongside weapons violations.

As a result of the seizures, visitors attempting to access the affected websites will be redirected to notices indicating that the domains have been seized by law enforcement authorities.
